TRAINING OVERVIEW

On February 28, 2003, President Bush issued Homeland Security Presidential Directive–5. HSPD–5 directed the Secretary of Homeland Security to develop and administer a National Incident Management System. NIMS provides a consistent nationwide template to enable all government, private-sector, and nongovernmental organizations to work together during domestic incidents.

This training will describe the key concepts and principles of NIMS, and the benefits of using the system for domestic incident response. At the end of this training session, you should be able to describe these key concepts, principles, and benefits.

The primary purpose of the training is to develop and improve standardized skills in the National Incident Management System. All Civil Air Patrol members need to complete NIMS training per a directive from the Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters. The level of training needed is based upon the individual member’s position and responsibilities. For course certification you will be required to pass a test on each session with at least a 75% accuracy in each area of training
